FAQs

What age group can go for Kailas Mansarovar Yatra?
Anybody between 8 and 80 years old, who is physically fit and mentally willing can perform this Yatra. 70 years plus only Indian passport holder cannot get visa for yatra.
The medical form, how easy is it to get a doctor sign it?
It’s easy. Please go through recommended medical test. If you have gone through the medical tests recently in past two months then you don’t have to do it again. It’s good to do the test immediately after you decide to go for the yatra. If there is any issue then you have enough time to resolve the medical problem. If everything is clear then your doctor will sign the Medical fitness form.
What if I am a Heart Patient?
If you have not gone through bypass or any major surgery in past three years then should not be a problem. Still please get your Cardiologist’s consent, this is very important. Make sure you get your stress test done.
I have Diabetes, Can I still perform Yatra?
Yes, make sure you get your measuring instrument along and check your diabetes every day, please take your prescribed medication regularly and follow diet instructions.
What if I have Asthma or other Breathing problems?
You must consult your doctor and explain to him about your High altitude journey. We will not be able to comment until we know your entire medical history.
What kind of exercises should we start to prepare for this Yatra?
You do not need to do any athletic exercises; but If you want to enjoy Yatra to its fullest, it is very important to have stamina and healthy lungs. We suggest following exercises:
Regular walking / Jogging
Climbing stairs
Practice of deep breathing
Forming a habit of drinking up to 3 liters of water daily.
Please refrain from smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages as you need your lungs at their best.
What are the different kind of sicknesses one can suffer due to this high altitude terrain?
Some common sickness, such as headache, nausea, dehydration and cold are experienced in Tibet. If you will follow our advice and follow mountain rules you will be fine and you will enjoy your Yatra. In rare case fluid collection in lungs & brain occurs. Normally it is resolved by medication. We need evacuation to lower altitude in rare cases.
What if a yatri falls very sick and needs hospitalization?
We will evacuate immediately to the nearest hospital and lower altitude where the sick person will be safe and out of life threatening situation. This in itself is a very difficult task; a single jeep has to be returned with the sick person with our staff; or we have to arrange air lifting by helicopter from the nearest Nepal-Tibet border. It is mandatory to get travel and medical insurance including evacuation by air for altitude upto 6000 meters.
What type of insurance should we buy? Can u suggest some good companies?
This is NOT regular health insurance, following should be covered in the insurance
1. Emergency rescue (by air) for altitude up to 6000 meters
2. Repatriation
3. Medical expenses
4. Will be better if you take coverage for your international tickets also
Imp: Please buy cash-less policy, it means your insurance company will pay or give payment guarantee for necessary party like helicopter, hospital etc. Otherwise, you have to pay the bills by yourself and afterwards you have to claim from the insurance company. Please talk to your insurance agent in this regard.
What kind of temperature should we expect?

Weather/Temperature varies, but here are some guidelines depending on our experience:

Month Night Day Expect Snow
Early May Goes down to 1°C (33°F)  cold Yes-less
June 3°C-7°C (37°F-45°F)  Bit cold  No
July 3°C-17°C (37°F-45°F)  Comfortable  No
August/September 3°C-17°C (37°F-45°F)  Comfortable  No
and early October Goes down to 1°C (33°F)  Cold  No
Is a passport required for Kailas Mansarovar Yatra?
Yes, a valid passport is a must for the pilgrims who want to have Kailas Manasarovar Yatra. Please don’t change or renew your passport without informing us, it is very important.
How to get visas to Nepal and Tibet visa?  Is visa cost included in the total tour cost?
Indian citizens do not need to have a visa for Nepal. Non-Indian citizens require a 30-day multiple entry visa which can be used on arrival at Nepal airport. A valid passport is needed with a minimum validity of six months from the last date for Tibet (China) visa. Cost of Tibet Visa is included in the total cost. However, cost of Nepal visa is not included (applicable for foreign nationals only). Indian passport holders do not need Nepal Visa.
What all documents should I carry for the Kailas Mansarovar Yatra?
Besides a valid passport one must carry a voter ID card (Indian Nationals), Colored Passport sized photograph, Travel & Medical insurance, Doctor’s Medical Certificate. Copy of Kailas Yatra permits and Group visa will be made available with the tour leaders/guides.
How does the Tibet Permit and Chinese Visa work?
We apply for your necessary travel permits for Tibet. The permits are in a form of group paper visa and it will not be an Individual Visa. It is to be noted that even if you have a Chinese visa already on your passport, you need to undergo this process of permit and visa for travelling to Kailas region. For this period your Chinese Visa will get cancelled. This Visa can only be attained by the registered agents.
Do we need to submit the Hard copy or the Soft copy of passport for Visa?
For the Tibet Permit and Chinese Visa we will require the Soft copy of your passport, please send the scanned color copy. Three days when we will be staying at Kathmandu we will be submitting the Hard copy of your passport to Chinese Embassy for verification.
Can we transfer the Money to your representative in US?
Tibet is a very sensitive region for China. The deposit amount is used to get the permits and to apply for Chinese Visa. This payment has to go from a particular channel; we have officially registered company in India and Nepal. To keep the process of the money transparent you must send the deposit to the registered company for the further arrangements.
What kind of transportation is used?
Bus :17 to 22Yatris will sit in a 30-seater bus. We use latest model buses with huge windows and push back chairs. Flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa. Helicopter from Kerung to back to Kathmandu
Can we go by Helicopter to Kailas Mansarovar?
We do not recommend going by Helicopter for following reasons: Your body needs some time to acclimatize to 15000 ft. If you fly by helicopter, you do not get this time. You are totally dependent on the weather. As you know mountain weather is very unpredictable. Sometime is happens that the helicopter does not fly for several days. Very less accommodation and food available around helipads.
Are Helicopters safe and easy to travel?
Its ok if the weather is clear.
Are there Western style toilets during Yatra?
You are with us for 13 nights. Out of this, for 10 nights rooms with attached toilets are available. However during bus journey there are no bathrooms available. We recommend buying your personal portable toilet stand (light weight –easily available in all drug store and in Walmart). We will also provide one in each bus. Around Kailas and Mansarovar(3 nights) there are no attached bathrooms. We will pitch toilet stand and toilet tent. This is not a big problem as imagined.

We will be staying in four to five star hotels in Nepal (First three days and last day) Facilities are less then basic in Tibet. You will get normal room with bed and comforter during Parikrama.
Is there communication facilty available during Yatra?
Telephone service is available almost in every small village and also there is mobile connectivity everywhere.
Will my phone network work in Nepal & Tibet?
There are cellphone towers almost everywhere. Its better to buy local simcard. Nepal: Simcard from the airport/keep one passport size photo / Appr. 150 INR. Tibet: You can get matrix (incoming free) card from your home country. You can not buy Sim card in China. You can also get International roaming for you sim card & you will be able to get connection during parikrama as well.
Are there any other extra expenses?
Yes, for buying mineral water, juice, hiring yak/horse, porter, phone calls& Tips.
How much extra money should I carry with me?
We recommend carrying min. USD 700 to 800 or equivalent in any other currency which you can convert in Yuan and bring with you. You can get this converted in Kathmandu also.
Is the deposit refundable?
Cancellation Policy1. Deposit will be non refundable. We will consider refund for cancellation if informed at least three months prior to Yatra date in case of medical emergency of close family members with valid medical reports. Final decision will depend on the circumstances and it will be binding. 2. Two Months prior to Yatra date : By this time, we would have paid further downstream for all reservations and fees, so you will have to reimburse Total Yatra Cost.
Which Currency works in Nepal and Tibet?
In Nepal currency is Nepalese rupees or Indian rupees ( 500& 2000 notes not accepted in Nepal ). In Tibet, it is Yuan.
What will be the currancy exchange rate?
Currency in Tibet is Yuan. As per the current exchange rate:1 US Dollar = 7 Yuan; 1 Yuan = 10 to 11 INR. This is an approx exchange rate, it will keep varying, so you can check from your side as well.
As there will be yatri’s travelling at different pace, is there a chance somebody can be left behind on their own?
As we will always have our staff in front, middle and at the end of our group for assistance, it is not possible to leave anybody behind even if yatri is walking very slow than other yatri.
How many Kilometers will I be travelling totally and how many days will it take?
From Kathmandu to Lhasa you will be flying. Lhasa and back to Kathmandu it takes about 9 days and 1600 kilometers. Lhasa to Kailas Mansarovar one way is 1200 km. Roads are in excellent condition. You will drive on the roof of the world. It’s an extremely scenic high way.
Is there major walking involved even though I am not going to do Kailas Parikrama?
No, there is no walking involved if you are not going for Kailas Parikrama. Only from the bus to your room. We have not experienced any landslide since past 5 years, but if there is a landslide on the way then one may have to walk 1/2 to 1 km (0.3 to 0.6 mile) at most.
Please tell me about Mansarovar Parikrama?
In total Mansarovar is 102 kms (63.75 miles). The entire Parikrama is done in a vehicle – 70% on arrival at Mansarovar and the remmaining 30% after the Kailas Parikrama.

Can we consume Brandy when there is extreme cold?
We would not recommend to bring any alcohol. However if you are brining then it can be taken as medicine only, in case of dire emergency. It should not be taken for pleasure or as a sedative.
Should we plan our trip so we are at Mansarovar during Full Moon night?
All days and nights are very beautiful around Mt Kailas and Mansarovar. We would not recommend to be there on full moon for following reason: Many organizers advertise about full moon; so many pilgrims are at Mansarovar and Kailas; There could be more than 1000 pilgrims around Mansarovar and Kailas, however, accommodation available is limited; Limited number of horses and yaks are available making it almost impossible for all to perform Kailas Parikrama during full moon. We would strongly suggest that pilgrims visit these holy places in calm and peaceful atmosphere where they can feel Him! Feel His presence!
