Inquire NowIn a land where Ardhanarishwar represents both man and woman as equal, Shakthi peethas hold a very special and prominent space in Hindu mythology. With around 51 Shakti peethas across India and its neighboring countries, Ambaji is one of the most ancient peethas in India.
Located in Gujarat, the Holy temple is at a distance of around 65km from Palanpur, 45km from Mount Abu and 185km from Ahmadabad. This proximity to some of the major cities in Gujarat makes it ideal for one-day tours.
According to Hindu mythology, Shakti peethas were formed because of Sati’s self-immolation. Because of this, each part of the body from Devi’s corpse fell in different places when being carried by Lord Shiva while mourning her death. As far as Ambaji is concerned, it is believed that Devi’s heart fell here.
One of the specialties of the Holy Ambaji Temple is that unlike other temples, there are no idols or pictures of the Goddess. On a concave wall lies the Holy Shakti Shree Yantra. It is gold-plated, contains 51 Beej letters and is connected to the original Yantras found in Ujjain and Nepal Shakti Peethas.
Besides, the Yantra is purely for devotional purposes, where you can neither photograph or view it with your eyes. The worship of the Holy Shree Yantra can be done only after your eyes are covered. The temple gets crowded during full-moon nights.
